Schalke 04 beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in one-sided Ruhr derby

Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann was nearly untested in the home goal, bar a simple save from a Marco Reus free-kick, as Domenico Tedesco's men successfully stifled their opponents.

Batshuayi and BVB were taking on Schalke 04 today in the massive local Revierderby, and not only did they lose 2-0 to their fellow top-four rivals, but Batshuayi also picked up what's feared to be a rather serious ankle injury.

"We made individual mistakes", Dortmund coach Peter Stoeger said after his second defeat in 15 games.

Schalke remain second but are now four points above fourth-placed Dortmund. "Everyone knew we could devour any opponent on a good day".

An unmarked Thilo Kehrer should have hit the target with a header from a terrific Caligiuri set-piece delivery, but, after Konoplyanka whipped a shot narrowly wide of the far post after cutting in off the left wing, the half ended goalless.

Dortmund looked labored as it sought a response against the home side's well-organized defense, and Naldo settled the result late with an indirect free kick. The defender hammered the ball past Dortmund's ineffective wall and inside the left post again.

The sight of the Belgian leaving the field on the stretcher was met with great concern from us Chelsea fans, who are all hoping to see Batshuayi push former Blues' striker Romelu Lukaku for a starting spot at the World Cup.
