Tough draw for Arsenal tempered by Diego Costa blow for Atletico Madrid

Arsenal will play two-time champion Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semifinals.

The Gunners are now sixth in the Premier League with little prospect of finishing in the top four and taking one of the Champions League qualification spots.

Costa had a scan yesterday and it has been suggested that he could be out for a fortnight, which makes him touch-and-go to play at the Emirates Stadium on April 26 with the second leg in Spain a week later.

Arsene Wenger saw his side put in a nervy showing against CSKA Moscow in their last outing on Thursday, with two late goals required in Russian Federation to put that encounter to bed.

Salzburg, who scored three times in five minutes on Thursday to beat Lazio 6-5 on aggregate and become the first Austrian side to reach a European semi-final since 1996, will fancy their chances of reaching the final. The final will be played on May 16 in Lyon.

Meanwhile, French Ligue 1 side, Olympique Marseille were drawn to battle Red Bull Salzburg of Austria for a spot in the final.

Atletico progressed at the expense of Sporting Lisbon, despite a 1-0 defeat in Portugal on Thursday evening.
