Weather Forecast: Dry today, then showers return this weekend

The line of storms could reintensify around midday and start moving eastward again, bringing another risk of severe weather to central Alabama.

Strong winds remain the main threat with any storms Sunday night.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has its own severe weather risk forecast for Saturday, and it differs some from the outlook from the Storm Prediction Center. Winds will turn breezy on Saturday with mostly quiet conditions through much of the day. A warming trend is in store for the remainder of the week.

EXTENDED: Heading into Saturday we are tracking more strong winds, to Level 2 strength so gusts in excess of 50 miles per hour. If the Gulf Coast storms don't materialize, we could see some severe storms between 5 PM and midnight. The upper pattern will get more aggressive over southeastern Louisiana so the storms may be getting stronger as they reach Acadiana around sunrise.

Our northwestern parishes will see more of the widespread, stronger storms compared to our southeastern parishes. Lows will only fall into the mid 60s as south winds continue to gust up to 40 miles per hour. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 46.

The time frame on the arrival of the line of storms is gradually becoming more clear.

Today: Clouding up, windy and warm, with thunderstorm chances increasing late this afternoon.

A line of storms are expected to move across the region by 5-8 a.m. and move east toward I-65 by late Saturday afternoon.

Damaging wind, hail, heavy rain, and isolated tornadoes are the main threats with this system. Daytime highs will grow from the 60s Monday and Tuesday to mainly 70s thereafter.

As you wake up on Saturday morning, showers and t-storms will likely be ongoing to our west. Temps will only warm to the 30s and 40s, with some 50s making temps 30-40 degrees colder than today.
