Alabama and Texas schedule 2022-23 football series

For years, Alabama would not play a true road game out of conference. The Crimson Tide will visit Austin, Texas, for the first game on September 10, 2022, with the Longhorns slated to make the return trip to Tuscaloosa on September 9, 2023.

Texas will bring the Crimson Tide to Austin in 2022. It will be the first games between the teams since Alabama beat Texas for the 2009 national title. Texas typically only schedules home games or two-for-one games with non-Power 5 opponents.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban said in a statement: "The Crimson Tide and Longhorns have played a lot of memorable games over the years, and the addition of this home-and-home series will be great for not only our fans, but fans of college football". The two schools have only met three times on their traditional home fields - the last coming in 1922. They have met in six bowl games since then.

Texas (898/2nd NCAA) and Alabama (891/5th NCAA) have combined to play 248 years of football and post 1,789 all-time victories.

Also on Wednesday, Texas announced that UTEP has been added to the 2020 schedule.

As a result, UCF ended up with a rare home-and-home series with the Longhorns. Texas holds a 2-1 advantage in those matchups.

A game against Central Florida, scheduled for 2023, has also been cancelled, the school said. UCF was set to come to Austin in 2023, which will no longer happen.

The biggest impact comes on Texas's upcoming series against Ohio State.

Because of this agreement, Texas and Ohio State have moved their previously scheduled home-and-home series back to 2025 (Austin) and 2026 (Columbus).
