Authorities say 'intentional detonation' triggered explosion at California medical building

The condition of the injured were not immediately known.

Children are seen being wheeled out in cribs as crews evacuate the preschool Academy on the Hills after a fatal gas leak explosion at a nearby office building.

The explosion occurred at about 1 p.m. and caused damage to the first floor of the two-story building, which was under construction. Surrounding buildings have also been evacuated.

He said investigators had not found an explosive device at the scene.

He said the person who died was inside the building when the blast occurred.

Officials originally believed the explosion was caused by a vehicle crashing into the building, but Orange County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Carrie Braun said no auto was involved and the department was investigating how the explosion occurred.

Fire and sheriff's officials said the building appeared to be undergoing some type of renovation.

Of the three people who were injured, Ms. Braun said, two suffered "significant" injuries while the third complained of smoke inhalation.

Fennessy says the blast involved a building under renovation.
