Fortnite's first competitive mode is Solo Showdown

A new limited time event mode is going live as well, following up the exciting Avengers: Infinity War crossover, but this event is a bit different from all the others. They feel that a competitive mode is in the pipeline over at Epic Games.

There's a new game mode in town, and it's Fortnite Battle Royale's Solo Showdown mode. Instead, it simply offers players a chance of netting some pretty awesome rewards if they manage to place in the top 100 players in the mode over the course of the event.

The Fortnite Solo Showdown is the first instance where Battle Royale players who perform well can earn V-Bucks. 1st place will get you 100 points, 2nd 94 points, 3rd 91 and so on. However, the company will be considering how players at lower skill levels get on with this, too. It doesn't change the core gameplay of the current Solo mode as previously mentioned.

"In the Solo Showdown LTM you will be placed against other self-selected competitors making this the ultimate test of survival". Get some practice knocked out in the standard solo queue in Fortnite Battle Royale, but make sure you get your 50 placement matches done before the end date.

The developers say that Solo Showdown is "a one-off stepping stone to learn how to build great events for all types of players", and are promising, "a major announcement about competitive play next week". It's just that you're being tracked for the first 50 matches you play within Solo Showdown to see where you stand. Under Playlists, you'll even find past limited time modes such as 50 vs 50, Solid Gold and so on.
