JR Smith Shoves Al Horford Mid-Air, Marcus Smarts Retaliates

Nearly immediately, Celtics guard Marcus Smart came to Horford's defense.

Smart finished with 11 points on a mere 3-of-9 shooting but added nine assists, five rebounds and four steals over 31 minutes in Boston's 107-94 triumph in Game 2 at TD Garden.

Smart immediately went over to Smith to stand up for his teammate and exchanged shoves with the Cavs veteran before teammates and the referees pulled them apart.

"I think Marcus always makes plays at the right time", said James, who raved about Smart's ability to play multiple positions and impact the game as a creator. Smart came over to get in Smith's face after the play, leading both to get technical fouls. Celtics fans, meanwhile, chose to hit Smith with a rather NSFW chant. Today was a tremendous effort on one of the biggest stages we've all played on. He can't control how his body goes, and he's not even looking, and you go and take two hands to the back.

"That's not the first time J.R. has done some dirty stuff, especially playing against us", Smart said. Keep letting the bully keep picking on you and he's going to keep picking on you. He could very well have been ejected from the game.

He was key in not only the Celtics comeback in the second-half but keeping the Cavaliers at bay in the fourth quarter, when LeBron James looked ready to lead his team to a potential comeback.

The Game 2 loss means the Cavaliers will head back to Cleveland trailing 2-0 in the series. Smith was involved, though he was not alone in those missed assignments."A few miscommunications", coach Tyronn Lue said. "I just wanted to make sure he didn't get it".
