Messi Eager To Banish 2014 World Cup Disappointment By Winning In Russia

Through his Twitter account, President Temer spoke about the World Cup after the announcement of the final list of the 23 players summoned for the national team earlier in the day, reports Xinhua news agency.

There would be 12 clubs from Europe and Fifa's preferred option for the first edition of the tournament is to invite those clubs who have won at least three Champions Leagues or European Cups.

According to a report in The Times, FIFA are planning the creation of a 24-team club World Cup.

At present, the Club World Championship is held every year, but exclusively the strongest clubs in the continents as well as the reigning champion of the host country compete in this tournament. The prize for the victor can reach €130-150 million.

That would see the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan, Bayern Munich and Barcelona all potentially involved too.

Of course, the clubs would not have to take part should they not wish to do so, but with a guaranteed £50m for competing and a potential £100m for winning the tournament, clubs are unlikely to turn down the offer.

The tournament will run from June 10 to 28, containing eight groups of three teams, followed by a quarter-final, semi-final and final.

As relayed by Swettenham, UEFA is said to be anxious the tournament would take some of the spotlight away from the Champions League, which now brings together the biggest sides in Europe.

The inaugural event could first take place in China, with the country having already expressed an interest in hosting the world's best teams.
