Overwatch Free Weekend May 25-28 & Anniversary Celebration

Lead designer Jeff Kaplan and his merry crew have released a new developer update in which they reveal that Overwatch has now been played by over 40 million people, meaning that the number has increased by five million since last October.

Overwatch is ready to celebrate its two-year anniversary this month. He also talks about the first ever free for all deathmatch season which will take place on the Chateaux and Petra maps.

"Petra is attractive. There are some really fun gameplay elements to it as well", Kaplan continued. "And this is a great opportunity for us, the Overwatch team, to celebrate you all and the unbelievable things you've done for the game, all the awesome content you've created for the game". The Overwatch free weekend will be running from May 25 through May 28.

Kaplan then moved on to discussing the new Overwatch map that Deathmatch players will get, a free-for-all map called Petra. "We think you'll find that very fun". There's parts of the map that are great for open, long-range heroes.

For those who have missed any of those aforementioned Overwatch events, look for all of the seasonal brawls and missions to make their return during the Overwatch Anniversary event.

The brand new anniversary loot box will not only feature content from the new anniversary event, but will also allow players to pick up items from any of the previous events.

The Legendary Edition will be released on May 22nd, the same date as the Anniversary in-game event begins.
