RED Will Launch the Hydrogen One on AT&T and Verizon This Summer

Nevertheless, if you're sold on the hype and didn't get your pre-order in before the deadline closed, you'll be happy to learn that the nation's two largest wireless providers - Verizon and AT&T - will both be carrying the Red Hydrogen One. Neither carrier listed a specific launch date, with AT&T saying only that the phone would be available "later this summer".

The real highlight of the Red Hydrogen One is its 5.7-inch holographic display. Called the Hydrogen One, the handset populated tons of media outlets' homepages (including ours).

When the Hydrogen One was announced, two models were unveiled: an aluminum version with a price tag set at $1,195, and a titanium variant with a price tag starting at $1,595.

You can sign up to be notified when Verizon will have the Hydrogen One in stores at this link. That's because the phone is supposed to be the world's first holographic phone, a device that would offer users 3D-like experiences without glasses. It has a 5.7-inch screen that's created to offer a 4-View (4V) "holographic mode" which displays a "better than 3D image" without glasses, according to Red founder Jim Jannard. But there is one Android phone that's unlike anything we've seen, and it finally has the backing of a major carrier. In its press release for the announcement, Verizon also plays up the phone's ability to have a holographic display.

Details of the Hydrogen One first surfaced last July. That date has been pushed back, with the company chalking up the most recent delay to efforts toward improving the camera.
