Sky, HBO take Serial case to TV

The Case Against Adnan Syed (4×60') is from Academy Award-nominated director Amy Berg (Deliver Us From Evil, West of Memphis).

In 2014, This American Life producer and journalist Sarah Koenig walked listeners through the 1999 murder of 18-year-old Hae Min Lee and the subsequent conviction of her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed (who maintains his innocence) in the wildly popular podcast Serial.

HBO announced Wednesday that it is co-producing a 4-hour documentary series, "The Case Against Adnan Syed", which will revisit the 1999 murder of Baltimore High School student Hae Min Lee.

The impact of the podcast "Serial" continues to be felt.

However, Sky say the series will uncover "ground-breaking revelations that challenge the state's case". Since the podcast aired, a series of court rulings have held that Syed should be granted a new trial.

'The hugely talented Amy Berg has unprecedented access to those closest to the investigation, which is sure to make unmissable viewing'. On March 29, 2018, the Court of Special Appeals also ruled to vacate Syed's conviction and granted him a retrial 18 years after first being convicted.

Nick Cave will provide original music for the series.

Working Title TV and Instinct Productions are producing, and NBC Universal International Studios are distributing the follow-up to the case, which will play on the Sky Atlantic channel in the United Kingdom and in the USA on HBO, Reuters reported.

Viewers will hear accounts from Adnan Syed, the defence team, the Syed family, friends and teachers of Hae Min Lee, and members of Baltimore City law enforcement. Now, HBO have announced they're prepping a new documentary, The Case Against Adnan Syed, which will look at the case in an in-depth manner (and will also featuring some of those fancy moving pictures since it's going to be televised).

There is no official release date at the time of writing.
