Stephen Piscotty to honor late mother with special gesture following HRs

Baseball is ideal, as we witnessed last night when Stephen Piscotty, of the Oakland A's, came to bat after returning to the team following his mother's funeral. Piscotty's mother, Gretchen, passed away May 7 after a battle with ALS.

What a special moment.

Stephen Piscotty looked to the sky, tapping his heart as he crossed home plate. "I kind of put my hand over my chest like she would do".

Stephen Piscotty homered in his first at-bat after being reinstated from the bereavement list and saluted his late mother as he crossed home plate, helping lead the Oakland Athletics to a 5-3 win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night in a game delayed nearly two hours because of weather. "I'm going to keep that with me".

Andrew Benintendi homered for Boston and Mitch Moreland finished with a pair of doubles for the Red Sox.

Mengden has allowed no more than two runs in his past three outings and no more than three in seven of his nine starts.

In his first game back, Piscotty promptly launched a towering home run over Boston's Green Monster. In the ninth, A's closer Blake Treinen gave up his first run in May on an RBI groundout by Mookie Betts before earning his eighth save of the season.
