Teacher 'Suspended For Relationship With Teen' Shot Dead Outside Mum's House

Teacher 'Suspended For Relationship With Teen' Shot Dead Outside Mum's House

A suspended Pennsylvania school teacher was gunned down while standing on her mother's driveway on Mother's Day, police said.

Ms DelTondo died at the scene, 35 kilometres northwest of Pittsburgh. "I counted six shots that I heard".

DelTondo's death comes just six months after the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School teacher was suspended from her job over a leaked police report.

Officials at the school received an anonymous tip-off via email in October 2017 that claimed that she had been involved in an incident in which police found her in a parked auto with a student who was 17 at the time, reports the Daily Mail.

The report, which was reportedly written by an Aliquippa officer, and later confirmed to The Beaver Countian by law enforcement officials as being authentic, described DelTondo as being in a parked vehicle with steamed windows alongside a 17-year-old student of hers.

Inside was DelTondo and the teen.

The report said DelTondo "didn't want her fiance to know" she was with the boy, claiming he was a friend.

Brian Hayden, CEO of Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, said that because he is a mandatory reporter, he had to notify Pennsylvania Childline when he received the email, even though it was about an incident that had happened almost two years earlier.

"Attached you will find a police report outlining a incident where a currrent [sic] PA Cyber school teacher was caught with a former student in a vehicle", read part of the email sent to The Beaver Countian, which they said included records from "county, state, and federal law databases".

During the confrontation with officers, DelTondo reportedly told police that she and the teen were "friends" and that they were "just talking" because he was "upset". She added that her fiancé did not know where she was, and would only be "mad" if he found out. The report was not public knowledge until the anonymous email was sent in October past year. She was an elementary school teacher but was suspended months before her death.

The leak led to a state investigation of the Aliquippa Police Department, and DelTondo cooperated with that investigation, CBS News reported.

Brian Hayden, chief executive officer of the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, has today released a statement after learning of DelTondo's death.

He wrote: "We were saddened this morning to learn of the tragic death of Rachel DelTondo, apparently the result of a violent incident in the City of Aliquippa". However, the check never came in the mail, so the family reached out to their local KDKA-TV reporter, Marty Griffin's segment, "Get Marty". We express our sympathy to her family, friends, and coworkers.

The teacher was planning a big, elaborate wedding with her Italian-American family, which included a $10,000, custom-made dress from a NY designer, CBS Local reported.

WPXI reported a slightly different version of the story, saying that Channel 11 found out about DelTondo's name after the mother of the former Aliquippa High School student talked to them about the incident. Officials said they are looking at a cellphone for information. "I really don't... handsome lady, friendly, knew everybody, talked to everybody".

Another neighbour, Dan Casper, added: "I don't know why that happened".

Authorities say 32-year-old Rachael DelTondo had gone to an ice cream shop on Sunday night (local time) and had just returned to the home in Aliquippa when she was shot multiple times.
