Tesla driver dies in Switzerland after auto crashes and bursts into flames

On 2 May Musk said Tesla would conduct "a reorganisation restructuring" during May, without providing more details.

The chief executive said in his email that Tesla will still hire critical positions to support the Model 3 production ramp and future product development. In a memo sent to employees, Musk noted he was "flattening (the company's) management structure to improve communications", while shifting away from "activities that are not vital to the success of our mission".

Witnesses said the Tesla auto did not brake prior to impact, the police said in a statement, adding it was unknown if the autopilot feature in the Model S was engaged at the time.

U.S. police said it was unknown if the car's autopilot feature was on at the time. Autopilot, a form of advanced cruise control, handles some driving tasks and warns those behind the wheel they are always responsible for the vehicle's safe operation.

A Tesla operating on Autopilot crashed late last week.

"This is false", Musk wrote.

Elon Musk has said the "short burn of the century" is coming soon to investors betting against Tesla Inc.

The Bellinzona city fire brigade reportedly pulled down from its Facebook page a comment a day earlier that had suggested that the vehicle's lithium-ion batteries could have triggered a phenomenon involving a "rapid and unstoppable increase in temperature" in the accident on Thursday. He said Tesla's record of one fatality every 512 million kilometres compared favourably with the 2017 national average of 138 million kilometres, according to safety regulators.

The US agency is also looking into the performance of the company's semi-autonomous Autopilot system after a Tesla Model X SUV crashed into a barrier on a California highway.

A photo released by the South Jordan Police Department shows a traffic collision involving a Tesla Model S sedan with a Fire Department mechanic truck. The Tesla's driver suffered a broken right ankle, and the driver of the Unified Fire Authority mechanic truck did not require treatment, Winkler said.

Since the driver was not fully focused on the road, it is unlikely that the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the accident, the newspaper says.
