It had been announced earlier this month that Mr. Thomas, a retired Hollywood lighting engineer who lives in Mexico, would walk his daughter to the altar at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, where the 36-year-old former actress is set to Wednesday Prince Harry (33), in front of 600 guests and an global television audience of millions on May 19.

The news website also claimed that he had recently suffered a heart attack.

First is four-year-old Prince George of Cambridge, the first son of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

"This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding", the palace statement said.

Meghan Markle's father has overshadowed his daughter's wedding to Prince Harry by sowing confusion about whether he would walk her down the aisle or snub the royal family by pulling out of the celebration at the last minute.

He married Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, in 1979.

Thomas Markle also said that Meghan tried calling him Monday, but he missed her call. According to Vanity Fair, Markle is still hoping that her dad will change his mind, but her father told TMZ he hasn't heard from her. She said the media had "raked him over the coals" and "distorted his image". Her t-shirt featured a drawing of a dog.

"I think he wants to go to the hospital and get checked out", she said. But through it all, Prince Harry has been a shoulder to lean on.

As a divorcee, with a white father and an African-American mother, Ms Markle's background has provided a source of huge interest and comment, not all positive.

The Daily Mail reported that police were clearing away sleeping bags and other possessions belonging to homeless people in Windsor ahead of the wedding. Markle has said they "mean the absolute world" to her, and has called them "my loves" and "my boys".

Meanwhile, Ms. Meghan's extended family has begun arriving in the United Kingdom despite not being on the guest list.
