U17 Keeper Releases Incredibly Mature Statement Following Controversial Red Card

Nearly everyone in the country will have heard the name Jimmy Corcoran after tonight's sensational UEFA u-17 Championship penalty shoot-out as the Republic of Ireland exited the competition in hugely controversial circumstances in Chesterfield.

The Irish were on the verge of elimination at 4-4 until goalkeeper Jimmy Corcoran saved Daishawn Redan's penalty - only for referee Zbynek Proske to award a retake, penalise Corcoran for encroachment and give him a second yellow card.

Inexplicably, Proske then shocked all watching at Proact Stadium, Chesterfield, UK, by astoundingly showing Corcoran a second yellow card, resulting in a red and his dismissal, reducing the young shot stopper to tears.

Defender Oisin McEntee went in goal for the retake which Redan scored, sending his side through.

Manager of the Republic of Ireland senior team Martin O'Neill was on the pitch after the Netherlands controversially saw off Ireland on penalties to leave our Euro hopes in the dust.

Republic had forced their way back into the match after the Dutch capped a spell of dominance by grabbing the lead in the 62nd minute with a powerful header by Liam van Gelderen.

But the Irish were level nearly immediately when a clever one-two between Troy Parrott and Jason Knight in the box resulted in the former sweeping home a superb shot.

The father of the Republic of Ireland U17 player at the centre of the penalty shootout controversy says his son endured a sleepless night.
