Yes, HTC is working on a 'blockchain phone'

The Taiwanese company has announced that it's working on a handset called Exodus, which will be its first blockchain smartphone.

The phone, reportedly dubbed 'Exodus, ' will feature a universal wallet and built-in secure hardware that supports cryptocurrencies and decentralized applications. What this means is that all of you cryptotraders will have no problems managing your "money" and accessing it via all sorts of avenues.

HTC is hoping that all its Exodus phones will act as nodes for facilitating blockchain transactions, including cryptocurrency exchange. If that doesn't get you Mr. Robot fanboys going, I don't know what will.

The device will be developed under the leadership of Phil Chen, who helped create HTC's virtual reality headset Vive.

Chen wrote in a blog post " Through Exodus, we are excited to be supporting underlying protocols such as Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and more. The company said they'd like to eventually support the "entire blockchain ecosystem", and added that they'll announce new partnerships in the months to come. Similarly, there's no set release date beyond "by the end of the year".

HTC has been struggling in the smartphone space and it is hard to imagine the justification of it launching a Block-chain powered phone.

Exodus is expected in October. As the company's "Decentralized Chief Officer", Chen notes users will own their "ID and data" right on the phone, instead of the cloud.

HTC isn't the first to tout a blockchain phone. Naturally, users will also be able to purchase the phone itself using cryptocurrency.

In terms of specifications, the Finney blockchain phone comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. Blockchain and cryptocurrency are becoming big topics these days, with many anxious that the traditional currencies might be worthless in a few years.

Nowadays, it seems tough to escape blockchain technology - especially with the rise of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
