Chinese tourist dies in hospital after bus crash in Prescott, Ont.

According to police, four passengers suffered life threatening injuries and twenty other passengers sustained non-life threatening injuries.

A bus crash on Highway 401 just west of Prescott on Monday left many people injured, with possible fatalities, and both westbound lanes closed as first responders were awaiting an air ambulance.

A truck driver who passed by shortly after the crash said he could see passengers standing outside the bus holding bloody noses and some appeared to have facial injuries.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene to find the bus in a ditch alongside the highway, she said.

"It definitely looked very surreal and chaotic", said the man, who would only give his name as Robert.

The paramedics also tweeted that 20 ambulatory patients were being taken to Kemptville District Hospital for further assessment via school bus. "The passengers' side of the bus got quite heavily damaged, thus all the injuries".

The Ornge air ambulance service said it was responding to the scene, which is about 95 kilometres south of Ottawa.

Dr. Bhaskar Gopalan, the hospital's chief ER physician, said the hospital was told that crash victims were on their way, but they didn't know exactly how many. It reported that one was in critical condition and two were in serious but stable condition.

The hospital in nearby Brockville said on Twitter that it had received five patients, all in critical condition.

"All of the people that we have received are all Mandarin speaking,"' said Brockville hospital spokeswoman Abby McIntyre.

"We have a Mandarin translator onsite to support them", it added in a post.
