Former head of Cambridge Analytica to testify

Former head of Cambridge Analytica to testify

The former boss of Cambridge Analytica (CA) clashed with a senior MP after he was blocked from reading a prepared statement to a Commons committee inquiry into fake news.

"The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has sought an explanation from Facebook seeking a detailed factual report on the issue".

Mr Nix warned MPs his answers would be constrained by the fact he is facing investigation by authorities in the United Kingdom and U.S. over CA's alleged involvement in the misuse of Facebook users' data.

Facebook said Kogan then violated its policies by passing the data to Cambridge Analytica.

"The negativity that has been swirling around social media's use of our personal data since the Cambridge Analytica scandal broke is clearly impacting on Brits' decisions to use and rely upon these platforms".

The report came just days after the Observer and the New York Times reported that the firm had commissioned an academic to harvest tens of millions of Facebook users' data without their permission.

Despite the negative sentiment among consumers, however, there is little evidence of sites such as Facebook suffering significant damage from the data misuse revelations - either financially or in terms of user base. Nix admitted to that he had made the exaggerated claims in order to attract what he thought was a potential client.

"It's not only deeply embarrassing, but it's something I regret enormously", he said.

Nix stepped down from the helm of Cambridge Analytica in April after Channel 4 broadcast footage of him telling an undercover reporter the company could send "Ukrainian girls" to a rival politician's home. 'All Mr Nix's comments carried in our reports were used in context, including any caveats, ' the broadcaster said in a statement. As Christopher Wylie says in the above video, "Cambridge Analytica is the beginning, it's not the end".

On Wednesday he told Channel 4: "I actually backed up everything I said with documents". At the session, Nix denied that he had withdrawn the money.

Asked about a Guardian report that a Cambridge Analytica employee visited Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in the Ecuadorian embassy in 2017, he said he had been unaware of the meeting.
