Google is not killing Android tablets, for now

While initial models of the device were Wi-Fi only, an HSPA+ variant of the tablet with 32GB of onboard storage became available in October that same year.

Google's last tablet-the Pixel C-was also released in December 2015, and has no indication of a successor being announced. Now, Google has surprisingly updated their website and have removed the "Tablets" section quietly.

Google has removed its Tablets category from its Android page earlier today with no official comment being made by the company regarding the move.

Of course, with Android being open source, manufactures will still be able to create tablets running the latest version of Android. Evidence that there were, once upon a time, such things as Android tablets has since then returned but their sudden and silent removal served to confirm what many have been expecting to happen sooner rather than later.

However, tablet sales declining as a whole does not have to mean people are less interested in buying them. With the change, the tablet section is nowhere to be found.

The overall Android tablet market has been quite underwhelming, in fact, with very few companies actually doing anything innovative in the sector. The only devices that are even featured in the tablet section of the Android site are the NVIDIA Shield Tablet K1, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0, and the Sony Xperia Z4. This pronouncement was complicated somewhat following a tweet by Android senior vice president, Hiroshi Lockheimer, indicating that the removal was the result of a bug that occurred during a website update. Corporation good believes that Chrome OS is already Mature enough to fully replace the Android OS on tablets.

It won't be a surprise if Google were to desert Android tablets though.

One of the most popular smartphone operating system Android is entering into its ten years.
