I’ll know ‘within first minute’ if North Korea is serious at summit

"So it's one-time, it's a one-time shot, and I think it's going to work out very well".

What can we expect from the summit?

After a gathering marked by both acrimony and banter, The US President left prematurely for Singapore and a possibly more momentous meeting - with North Korea's Kim Jong-un.

Their appearance comes days before a summit between the real leaders in the city-state.

Some critics have said that the summit is being rushed through, with Trump keen to chalk up his first major foreign policy achievement.

President Donald Trump said Saturday he would know "in the first minute" whether an upcoming summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would be a success.

Not so unusual, said Peter Ward, a North Korea researcher at Seoul National University. In 2003, Libya agreed to give up its nuclear, chemical, biological and missile programs to restore its standing in the worldwide community and get sanctions relief.

The diplomatic initiatives leading to the summit started in late April when Kim met South Korean President Moon Jae-in and the leaders of the rival states pledged to end hostility and establish peace on the Korean peninsula. But he found the North Korean participants hospitable, curious and hopeful about the future.

Kim Jong Il, the current leader's father who died in 2011, violated past global deals aimed at curbing the North's nuclear program and ballistic missiles by launching new weapons tests. "This should be a matter between USA and South Korea".

He said the North Korean leader could do "something very positive for his people, for himself, his family", but acknowledged that they are both in "unknown territory in the truest sense".

He previously also made an appearance at the Winter Olympics in Gangneung in South Korea in February, bewildering North Korean cheerleaders who initially thought their leader had walked into a hockey stadium.

"After eight years of weak, pathetic, spineless leadership under Obama, things have changed", Hannity said, noting that Trump has actually responded to North Korean threats.

"I personally don't believe in further shutting out North Korea from the rest of the world, and feel cultural exchange and dialogue - even through something as basic as tourism - is extremely important in better understanding each other", he said. "All will be quiet for a few months, until Kim rolls out his own perfected nuclear posture review", he added. -North Korea summit and what's at stake with the historic event.

Questions remain about what a deal on the North's nuclear weapons would look like. I'm sure the North Koreans would sign up for that.

"Here we were, 60 miles outside of New York City, with rifles", said Peter Ticktin, a lawyer in Florida, who was in his class. I think it would be good for the world. "I don't think Gen. Douglas MacArthur would like that too much". I think it would be good for the United States. The Iran nuclear deal, on the other hand, was an executive agreement negotiated under the Obama administration.

Since the summit was revived by Trump last week, there has been scant mention about Trump or the meeting in the North's tightly controlled propaganda outlets.

Lee predicted that Trump will agree to an open-ended statement that will fall short of a treaty requiring Senate ratification. "That's what I do", Trump continued.
