Lemar snubs Liverpool, Arsenal to join Atletico

Lemar is now away on worldwide duty with France and both clubs will be keen to finalise the transfer before the start of the World Cup, which gets underway on Thursday.

A statement on Atletico's website confirmed the clubs will work over the next few days to complete the transfer.

According to "Canal + France", Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann will announce on Tuesday in a press conference that he will continue with the Rojiblanco, accepting their offer to renew and turning down the chance to move to Barcelona.

Lemar is a part of Didier Deschamps' France squad in Russian Federation and could be in line for a start in their first game against Australia on Saturday should Kylian Mbappe miss out with an ankle knock.

But Griezmann has remained tight-lipped on his decision, refusing to reveal his future destination just yet.

Lemar was also tipped to join Liverpool as they seek to replace Philippe Coutinho. "I know many people were waiting for that but this isn't the right day to do so".

Griezmann had previously hinted that his future would be sorted before the start of the World Cup.

"He promised that everything would be sorted before the World Cup, it's not going to be the case".

If the Catalan club signed him now, it would cost them €200 million but if they wait until the turn of the month, it will be halved to €100 million.

Monaco's Brazilian midfielder Fabinho will join Liverpool following the World Cup finals in Russian Federation as Monaco cash in again.
