New Number One As Forbes Publish Highest-Paid Athletes List 2018

Boxer Floyd Mayweather reclaimed his place at the top of Forbes' annual ranking of the 100 highest-paid athletes on Tuesday but no woman featured on the list for the first time.

Mayweather heads the world's highest-paid athletes for the fourth time in seven years, thanks to a $275 million payday for his August boxing match against UFC star Conor McGregor. Mayweather would win that fight via 10th round TKO and his $285 million earned is more than both the No. 2 and No. 3 athletes on the list, combined.

Ronaldo has been the highest paid athlete the two previous years but fell to third. Mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor and Brazilian footballer Neymar complete the top-5 list.Virat Kohli is the only Indian who makes the cut and is placed 83 on the list.

This year 40 National Basketball Association players made the cut in Forbes' annual look at the world's 100 highest-paid athletes, breaking the record of 32 set last year by hoopsters. Lionel Messi clocked in at $111 million while Ronaldo followed at $108 million.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is the highest earning National Football League player, coming in at ninth with $67.3 million.

Forbes used salary and bonus data between June 1, 2017 and June 1, 2018 to compile the list.

Tennis star Serena Williams, who a year ago was the only woman to feature on the list at 51st place with earnings of $27 million, dropped out of the rankings after taking a break from the sport due to the birth of her daughter. There has always been at least one woman - and as many as three in some years - in the list since it was expanded to include at least 50 names in 2010.

Kohli, the only sportsperson from India to be featured in the list, is ranked 83rd with earnings of United States dollars 24 million.
