Resident Evil 2: the remake's trailer and details

This is a complete and total remake of the original title that actually looks better than most modern games.

The big picture: The original Resident Evil was an absolutely groundbreaking game when it launched on the PlayStation more than two decades ago.

Capcom Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi also spoke about the RE2 remake and said that this first reveal is just the tip of the iceberg with what is left to come.

After more than 20 years, Resident Evil 2 is back for gamers to savor once again.

The cool thing is that players will be returning to the ominous dark, and zombie-infested streets of Raccoon City. We've been very eager to unveil the new game to the world this week. That's a pretty quick turnaround for a game that just got its first trailer. That last one seems to indicate that this game will echo some of the major story beats of the original Resident Evil 2, but it's hard to say for sure how closely this game will follow the plot of the original.

Playing as Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy, Capcom is swapping out the original fixed camera viewpoints for an over-the-shoulder view. Will they make it out alive? The Resident Evil 2 remake will be released on January 25, 2019. With Capcom's proprietary RE Engine powering a new photorealistic style, the characters themselves appear sharper than ever and the grotesque hordes of zombies are brought to life with a horrifyingly realistic wet gore effect.

Attendees at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (Los Angeles, June 12-14) can get an early preview with the first hands-on demo opportunity for Resident Evil 2 at Capcom's booth.

Step into the rookie shoes of both heroes - Enjoy separately playable campaigns for both Leon and Claire, allowing players to see the story from both characters' perspective.
