"The Office" Actor Hugh Dane Dies At 75

Hugh Dane, the actor who played Hank the security guard on "The Office", died last month at the age of 75.

No further details have been released yet and the cause of death remains unknown. His obituary describes Dane as a "loving husband, father, grandfather and friend", with his funeral being scheduled for Saturday, June 9th. He also appeared in films including "Bridesmaids", "Joy Ride", and "Little Fockers".

Hugh Dane, star of the United States version of The Office, has died aged 75.

However, it was his portrayal of Hank Tate, Dunder Mifflin's deadpan and down-to-business security guard, that will likely be most remembered.

Steve Carell retweeted Wilson, adding, "What a terrific guy".

But it was his recurring role in the American version of The Office, which ran from 2005 to 2013, that cemented his status as a comedy actor. The actor even tried to pretend he was a blues player in the show.

Mindy Kaling addressed Dane's passing, tweeting, "Hugh Dane was one the funniest actors ever". Though he was not the most well known actor in The Office or anything else he really worked on, it is clear by the reactions of his co-workers that he will wholeheartedly be missed. Fellow The Office alumnus Rainn Wilson paid tribute to Dane on Twitter, where he provided a donation link to the Inner City Cultural Center along with a clip of an exchange between their characters on the show.
