Trump says has good relationship with Canada's Trudeau after G7 meeting

Ex-administration official Seb Gorka slammed Justin Trudeau today by calling his dispute with President Donald Trump "childish" and praising White House trade adviser Peter Navarro's "special place in hell" slam against the Canadian prime minister.

"There are always irritants in relationships", Pompeo said while in Singapore for a summit between Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong Un.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Trump said Trudeau's comments at a press conference after the G7 summit in Canada would "cost a lot of money for the people of Canada".

Navarro said Trump "did the courtesy to Justin Trudeau to travel up to Quebec for that summit".

Trump said it "didn't look friendly" but it was "very friendly".

Heyman believes the relationship can recover, with the caveat that the USA will have to take the initiative.

Heyman said Trump's tweets and protectionist about-face could and force Canada to look for trade partners beyond the USA, noting Canada's trade frameworks with Europe and Asia. The damage to the USA from a trade war with Canada and other partners could be real and lasting.

Former Conservative cabinet minister James Moore, a member of the government's advisory group on NAFTA, hailed Trudeau's approach, refusing to react to "the noise, the bluster, the Twitter, the emotional outbursts".

Following Trudeau's statement during the news conference, Trump posted two tweets slamming his words as "false" and accused the Canadian prime minister of being dishonest.

He said he felt deceived by Trudeau's referring to U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum as "insulting" and threatening to impose retaliatory penalties of his own.

Trump went on to say that the USA gets "unfairly clobbered" on trade despite "protecting Europe at great financial loss".

It says that MPs "reject disparaging ad-hominem statements by USA officials, which do a disservice to bilateral relations and work against efforts to resolve this trade dispute".

"It would be with regret, but it would be with absolute certainty and firmness that we move forward with retaliatory tariffs measures on July 1 applying equivalent tariffs to the ones that the Americans have unjustly applied to us. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!", Trump wrote in a second tweet.

"In conveying that message I used language that was inappropriate and basically lost the power of that message", Navarro said at the Wall Street Journal's CFO Network summit.

The escalating clash cast a shadow over the Trump's nuclear talks with Kim and led critics to question why the president was bashing USA partners while appearing to cozy up to one of Washington's bitterest long-time foes.

"I had a very good meeting with the G7", Trump said, rejecting suggestions the summit was a failure.

Larry Kudlow, director of the National Economic Council, lashed out at Trudeau as "amateurish" and "sophomoric".

"We finished the (G7) meeting and really everybody was happy".
