Chelsea Should Be Ashamed Of Their Statement About Antonio Conte

Chelsea are expected to confirm the departure of Antonio Conte later today.

Former Chelsea club captain John Terry has paid a fitting tribute to Antonio Conte, who was sacked as manager of the club on Thursday in a decision that was highly expected from ardent fans of the club.

Despite winning the FA Cup last term, the club have parted ways with the Italian, and former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri will take the reigns, becoming the club's ninth full-time manager since Roman Abramovich took charge in 2003. "In the title winning season, the club set a then-record 30 wins in a 38-game Premier League season, as well as a club-record 13 consecutive league victories", it said.

Antonio had reported for three days of pre-season training with the senior side this week, due to complications between Napoli and the West London club in reaching an agreement over compensation for Sarri.

The 59-year-old helped establish Napoli as a major threat in European competitions with the club finishing just four points behind Juventus last season.

Sarri's regular brushes with Italy's football authorities had looked likely to cost him the chance of becoming Chelsea's next manager earlier this summer.

The former Empoli boss is not known as a big spender which might fit with the slightly more modern Chelsea era of tighter spending.

It's been a disastrous summer at Stamford Bridge thus far, with the club yet to make any new signings.

Jose Mourinho: Premier League 04-05, 05-06, FA Cup 06-07, League Cup 04-05, 06-07.

Two trophies in two seasons but the writing was on the wall.

Alternatively, he could end up hanging up his boots and becoming a part of the coaching staff at Stamford Bridge.

The question after Antonio Conte's departure from Chelsea on Friday was not 'where did it all go wrong?' but rather 'why did it take so long?'.
