Serena Williams wins, will go for Grand Slam No

Safely through to her 10th Wimbledon final, and 30th in majors, Williams was back giving the crowd a one-arm raised victory twirl after her opponent swiped a lob behind the baseline.

But it has not even been a year since Williams spent six days in hospital after giving birth to daughter Alexis Olympia by emergency C-section and then needing surgery to prevent blood clots entering her lungs with potentially fatal consequences.

Williams then said she did not feel she deserved her status as the media's favourite for another Wimbledon title, as she had only "played four tournaments".

"I didn't expect to play this well so quickly into my comeback", Williams said after the match. "So I'm taking everything as it is and just enjoying every moment".

This weekend is a chance for Williams to equal Margaret Court's long-standing record of 24 grand slam singles titles. "To see her back, it's great".

Speaking to reporters after Thursday's semifinal, Williams appeared relaxed and revealed more about the challenges she has faced since Alexis Olympia was born September 1, including a recurrence of life-threatening blood clots after her emergency Caesarean section. But it's precisely that versatility, the ability to play both a counter-punching game and an aggressive game, that has landed her consistently in the final frames of the majors this year.

Meghan Markle has been pictured at Wimbledon on several occasions in the past, including in the summer of 2016, the summer in which she is thought to have met Prince Harry for the first time.

"It was just routine every day, I had to have a new surgery. I want to get as many as I can".

Williams became the oldest woman to win Wimbledon two years ago, beating Kerber in what was their last meeting. Asked if Williams was reaching a broader audience now, Smoller said: "Of course".

In post-match interviews, she has talked candidly about motherhood. "I know that she is always pushing you to the limits".

The 36-year-old's pregnancy ended with an extremely hard delivery that left her needing several operations to prevent life-threatening blood clots. "Otherwise, I think she's not only defensive player, she can hit winners, as well". She was ranked No. 1 when she took her maternity leave and was ranked 183rd in the world after returning to the tour in March.

But when the steely-eyed Williams imposed her iron will, the challenger was unable to reply, dropping five games straight to surrender the first set and fall behind in the second.

"In a way, it's by far the toughest year for me, but in a way it's by far the best". In her first official tournament at Indian Wells, she managed to win her first two matches but lost to sister Venus in the third. One thing I can say on her behalf, that she may hopefully agree with.

Following another two months away from competition, she entered the French Open in late May, and won three matches before pulling out before the fourth round because of an injured pectoral muscle.
