Trump arrives in Britain, questioning May's Brexit plan

Vince Cable, the leader of the pro-EU Liberal Democrats, said, "Most of us don't think he is particularly good judge on Brexit or anything else".

Protests are expected against Trump, whose policies - including a travel ban on a number of predominantly Muslim countries, detention of child migrants on the US-Mexico border and imposition of tariffs on European Union steel and aluminium exports - have all been criticised by the UK. In London, we speak with Sheila Menon, social justice activist and one of the organizers behind the Trump baby blimp.

May will host a black-tie dinner for Trump at the stately home that will be attended by senior ministers and about 100 business leaders, including the likes of Blackstone group, Blackrock, Diageo, McLaren and Arup.

Despite the welcome from May, many Britons are opposed to Trump's visit.

Ignoring all diplomatic niceties, the convention-shredding USA president set up the four-day visit with a rebuke of his beleaguered host as she battles to stop her government falling apart over Brexit.

Donald Trump's July visit to the UK will be his first as president of the United States.

Mr Trump is due to meet Prime Minister Theresa May, who is seeking a post-Brexit trade deal - days after he said the United Kingdom was in "turmoil".

While the many thousands are expected to line the streets and protest against Trump, politicians have become involved too.

On Thursday, Trump will travel to Blenheim Palace, the 18th-century mansion where Britain's World War Two leader Winston Churchill was born and spent most of his childhood.

Mr. Trump, however, suggested before leaving a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels on Thursday to head for London, that Britons in general agree with his policies, in particular his tough stance on immigration.

The President and his stunning wife, originally from Slovenia, touched down in Britain late last night for the controversial visit after sparking fury on an global stage at yesterday's NATO Summit.

The demonstrators plan to loft a large blimp-like balloon over the skies beside Westminster Palace, depicting a bronzed "Trump Baby" in diapers, clutching a mobile phone.

Asked about the President's view on US-UK relations, he said: "He has worked here for so many years, he knows so many people".

He is due to leave Britain on Sunday for talks in Helsinki the following day with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose government stands accused by May's of unleashing a lethal nerve agent in the city of Salisbury.

The British are usually polite to a fault - though they have been known to go off after a soccer match or once the pubs close. "People see him as a cheap huckster who happens to have an office we respect as president of the United States".

"The UK loves me, in fact my mother was from the UK, they love me there even if they are not treating us well with trades, but they will", he said.

On Friday, Trump will meet May and her newly appointed Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt at the prime minister's countryside retreat, Chequers.

Ambassador Johnson sought to play down Trump's comments.
