Ugliest dog dies in its sleep weeks after contest win

The English bulldog won the ugliness title at a contest last month in Petaluma, California, and after her win the celebrity canine received $1,500 and was flown to NY first class.

"I'm in shock still", Brainard told CNN sister network HLN.

The World's Ugliest Dog 2018 has died at the age of nine, her owner has said. When her body was returned to his owner's house on the same day, Brainard, her husband Jesse and 15-month-old daughter Mareslie held an intimate farewell ceremony for the English bulldog. "He woke up this morning and found her passed away". "I haven't even processed her winning and fame".

"She never really showed much excitement but yes, she was definitely living it up after she won". She said Zsa Zsa had not been having any health issues.

"From the moment we saw her handsome face, we knew we would be her forever home", Brainard said.

Dogs in the annual competition flaunt their imperfections - some have hairless bodies, others have lolling tongues.

Zsa Zsa spent five years at a puppy mill in Missouri before being purchased by the nonprofit Underdog Rescue.
