What does Trump's Supreme Court pick mean for abortion in Minnesota?

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh listens to Sen. "We must fight back against the risky nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh".

"At a time where hard-fought progress in LGBT rights, voting rights, and women's rights are threatened, and immigrants and vulnerable communities in our country are under attack, the role of an independent Supreme Court - and one that protects the Constitutional rights of all Americans - is more important than ever".

It appears that if confirmed, Kavanaugh would be the least wealthy justice. Rob Portman (R-OH) talk about Kavanaugh's qualifications before a meeting in the Russell Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill July 11, 2018 in Washington, DC.

Kavanaugh spent 12 years as a judge on the US Court of Appeals in Washington, DC, and has a record of more conservative rulings on environmental cases, favoring industry over regulators especially in cases related to greenhouse gas emissions.

"That's a very potent message and I think you'll see a lot of it", the Republican said.

Pro-choice and LGBT advocates assembled Thursday in front of the Florida Supreme Court in Tallahassee to urge that Brett Kavanaugh be rejected as a nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In Wednesday's podcast, Fallon said he believes Kaine is "one of the most honorable men in politics" but disagrees with his approach to Kavanaugh's nomination.

Some Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, have vowed to fight Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court in the Senate.

Fallon hopes Democrats will "look in the mirror and do the right thing" with respect to Kavanaugh.

While President Trump stands staunchly against the Clean Power Plan, a Supreme Court decision narrowing the authority of the EPA to regulate greenhouse gasses could limit the ability of future administration's to change course.

"The President vowed to appoint judges to the Supreme Court who would overturn Roe v. Wade, and I can not support a nominee for a lifetime appointment who would turn back the clock on a woman's constitutional right and freedom to make her own health care choices, including access to birth control", Baldwin's statement said.

Their second phase, which a staffer said will start two weeks before the confirmation hearings, will focus on mobilizing voters to put pressure on their home-state senators to confirm Kavanaugh.
