Alexa will tell you when it has done its homework

Alexa will tell you when it has done its homework

If there's one area in which Alexa has long lagged behind Google Assistant, it's general knowledge. Notably, the Answer Update feature will be an opt-in feature that is expected to roll out to Amazon Alexa users over the next week.

Amazon's digital voice assistant Alexa will now come back to you to answer your question from three days ago.

Amazon enthusiasts have spotted a new feature being tested in the wild that lets the interactive speaker thing get back to you at a later date, should it now not know the answer to one of your spoken queries. This could be a voice notification from Alexa itself, but since Alexa nearly never speaks to users unprompted, it's more likely to be a smartphone notification from the Alexa app.

After you enable the feature, Alexa will notify you once it learns the answer to a question you've asked previously. This can be an Echo device, a third-party Alexa device such as the Sonos One, or the Alexa app (for Android and iOS) on your smartphone. You'll then be able to disable the feature at any time by saying "Alexa, turn Answer Update off" - if intermittent reminders of your own trivial questions begin to get on your nerves.

This promotion is only available to those who have an Alexa-enabled device, like the Echo Dot linked to their Amazon account, but at this point that's likely most of you. Alexa may also prompt you to turn it on after answering a question.

It doesn't appear that the feature is fully up and running yet, though. Unfortunately for Amazon, nobody really uses that feature.
