Apple Set to Remove Apps from its Affiliate Program

Announced within a newsletter on Tuesday, Apple implies how organic "increased methods of app discovery" helped by the launch of the new App Store on iOS and macOS mean including the apps & in-app purchases are no longer necessary to be included with in the program... a kick in the teeth for app sites and publishers alike. The company had rolled out a revamped iOS App Store with iOS 11, and is working on a new Mac App Store in macOS Mojave. Even that, it would seem, is too much for impoverished Apple to pay its fans as apps disappear from the agenda as of 1 October 2018.

In a development that was least expected, Apple has announced its iTunes Affiliate Program will no longer be in existence starting October 1. Apple claims that the modifications to the iOS and Mac App Stores have ensured more methods of driving app discovery. Apple reduced the rate for in-app purchases from 7% to 2.5% previous year and where also going to reduce the app purchase rate to 2.5% but they changed their mind after pressure and protests from publishers.

The affiliate marketing program allowed individuals, iOs news sites and publications to link to an app and in return receive revenue from Apple, which the firm took out of its standard 30% iTunes and App Store cut.

For Apple devices - Download the app in the App Store. With the latest information, the commission is gone completely. All other content will remain part of the program. Apple attempted to drop the affiliate commission rate from 7% to 2.5% previous year but then backtracked after publisher uproar and clarified that only in-app purchases would be reduced.

As stated, Apple says the program still remains for music, movie, book and TV purchases.
