James Bond Producers Interested In Idris Elba To Play 007

The Daily Star reports that Broccoli had a conversation with director Antoine Fuqua about potentially casting the role with a non-white actor.

Known for his roles in Thor: Ragnarok, Luther and The Wire, Elba has been mentioned in connection to the 007 role since at least 2012, He's routinely mentioned, along with the likes of Tom Hardy and Tom Hiddleston, as a potential replacement for Craig, who's expected to bow out of the 007 role next year following the release of the 25th Bond film.

Yet, rumor or not, people online seem pretty excited about the idea.

The paper quoted Broccoli as saying that "it's time" for a non-white actor to fill the role once Craig completes his final film in the series, which is scheduled for release in 2019.

Last August, Craig had revealed he would return to the iconic role one last time, having previously played Bond four times: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre. I think it's more about, "We just want to have a black guy play James Bond" rather than "Idris Elba, the actor, play James Bond".

Upon hearing that Elba is in the frontrunning to play Bond next, the internet shared their opinions. "Idris could do it if he was in shape", Fuqua said.

Actor Idris Elba is reportedly in the running to be the next James Bond - after Daniel Craig exits the role. You need a guy with a physically strong presence.

Idris Elba was a massive early favourite back in 2015, but his own denials and so much time passing had bumped him down the list.

Before anyone starts planning a James Bond movie marathon, popping champagne and setting off celebratory fireworks, or changing their social media display icons to a photo of the impossibly handsome Elba (c'mon, we know someone had to be tempted), let's take a step back and analyze this information.
