Mobile rolls out cheaper tier of unlimited service

T-Mobile Essentials offers the bare necessities - unlimited talk, text and data in the United States - for just $30 per month.

As for mobile hotspot use, that's also included, though not at the same sort of speeds as T-Mobile ONE customers might experience.

There will be some extras available for the T-Mobile Essentials plan for customers who need them. If you just want a plan for your smartphone and don't need extras like Netflix or add-ons for heavy worldwide usage, the new T-Mobile Essentials plan can help you save a little cash each month.

T-Mobile Essentials is priced at $60 for one line, $30 for the second line, and $15 per line for lines 3-6, plus taxes and fees with autopay. T-Mobile's most expensive plan is its "One Plus" that includes all that plus more hotspot data, HD streaming, caller ID and more. "During times and places with heavy network demand, Essentials customers may notice slower speeds than other customers", T-Mobile warned in a statement.

T-Mobile has a new smartphone plan focusing on the holy trifecta: unlimited calls, messaging, and data, and very little else. Without autopay, it's an extra $5 per month, per line. And Verizon charges $80 for the first line of service on its cheapest "gounlimited" plan.

It's not often that T-Mobile introduces a whole new rate plan, but today that's exactly what the carrier has done.
