Ohio State opens practice but coaches, players off-limits for interviews

According to a statement from Courtney Smith's attorney, Julia Leveridge, the school "never contacted Ms. Smith to discuss these allegations, ' but, 'she will fully cooperate with the university's current investigation" into the handling of the matter by head coach Urban Meyer.

Since then, Meyer has been placed on administrative leave and an investigation is being conducted to determine if the proper protocol was followed in reporting the allegations and, ultimately, Meyer's fate with the school.

The wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator - who also is the son of the late Ohio State coach and Meyer mentor Earle Bruce - was sacked July 23 after his ex-wife sought a restraining order against him.

According to the new report, Smith, who was sacked earlier this summer, received a much-smaller raise following the 2015 season than he did in other years.

Zach Smith was sacked July 23 after Courtney Smith was granted a protective order, and Courtney Smith has alleged that he abused her on multiple occasions, including in 2015. "We can't have someone like this coaching young men". Meyer told reporters he had known of the 2009 episode, which occurred when Smith was on his staff at the University of Florida, saying, "It came back to me that what was reported wasnt actually what happened".

Meyer initially denied that he knew anything about the 2015 accusation before issuing a statement Friday that reversed course.

Ohio State fired assistant coach Zach Smith on July 23 when his past allegations of domestic assault were brought to light by reporter Brett McMurphy.

After Courtney Smith went public last week, claiming she had told Meyer's wife Shelley about the abuse in 2015, the Buckeyes head coach changed his story in a statement. Ohio State announced on Sunday night that the investigation is expected to be completed in two weeks.

Zach Smith told Columbus radio station 105.7 The Zone that Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith questioned him during the 2015 football season about the allegations made by Courtney Smith that fall.
