Ariana Grande penned an emotional tribute to Mac Miller on Instagram today.

"We talked about this", Grande continued.

'I can't believe you aren't here anymore. She captioned it: "I adored you from the day I met you when I was nineteen and I always will".

The superstar went on to say that 'You were my dearest friend for so long above anything else. i am so sorry i could not fix or take your pain away. i truly wanted to. She and dated Mac for two years before the couple amicably parted ways earlier this year, and while her initial response to the news of Mac's death was to post a candid, captionless photo of him to her Instagram page, she's now put her feelings into words. In what is being reported as a suspected overdose, the star was found dead in his Californian home just after 12pm.

It was later revealed that Ariana and Mac split because of his struggles with addiction, but during their break up announcement, Ari shared that there was still love and support.

Ariana has stayed silent since Mac's death, though she shared a caption-less picture of him days after it was announced. He starts saying, "If we walk", but stops when he notices Ariana is recording him. I saw that, I was around it, I took phone calls from her - 'How do I help?' 'What do I do?' "Because whether he's an addict or not, the way Mac partied was not healthy".

The singer added that she would continue to "pray" for Mac to get through his sobriety.
