Boateng reveals reason for turning down Mourinho and Man Utd

And if that is the case, a swap deal can be something that Jose Mourinho would look forward to.

Paul Pogba has had issues with the the current Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho was desperate to sign a top class central defender during the summer transfer window as the Man Utd boss continues to have doubts over the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof.

One man that was heavily linked with Man United in the final days of the transfer window was World Cup victor, Jerome Boateng.

He told the Bild that he had "enquiries" from Man United and PSG but opted to remain in Germany because everything was "in place".

Mourinho was adamant on bringing another centre-back to Old Trafford, with Harry Maguire also viewed as a target.

Although Boateng also held talks with Paris Saint-Germain, a summer move failed to materialise as he preferred to stay at Bayern. The hit in stature hasn't gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid and Manchester United showing an interest in him. It was no escape, but rather the thrill of a new challenge.

'I feel well at Bayern. But it remains to be seen if our club can persuade Juventus to sell one of their prized assets in the winter transfer window.

"I phoned Jose Mourinho and told him that his interest honoured me and thanked him that he put his back into United for me", Boateng said.

Boateng had previously played in the Premier League for Manchester City, but the 30-year-old defender could not be tempted to leave Bayern, even if the thought of a new club intrigued him. 'I explained to him that it's hard to leave, and if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club, ' explained Boateng.

A Champions League victor in 2013, he has won six consecutive Bundesliga titles with the Bavarian giants and also got his hands on the German Cup three times.
