Creepy video game Alan Wake being turned into creepy TV show

Remedy will be collaborating on the project with Contradiction Films, which happens to be the production company behind video game-to-movie adaptations Mortal Kombat: Legacy and Dead Rising: Watchtower.

It's a move that makes sense - the original game was heavily influenced by classic TV series aesthetically, right down to it being structured into six "episodes", paced like each segment of the game was its own slice of TV, complete with cliffhangers and even credits songs.

"Alan Wake was basically a TV series that was put into a game", said Tomas Harlan, partner at Contradiction Films, in an interview with Variety. "That was Sam's vision".

While players might be sad to learn that there is now no news of more Alan Wake games, they can still look forward to seeing elements of some of what was planned for the sequel in the series. It was influenced by The Twilight Zone, Secret Window, Hitchcock, Northern Exposure, a lot of USA television. We plan to work closely with Sam on our this show.

Lake will also serve an integral role in adapting the 2010 Xbox 360 adventure for television, promising "more to" the TV show beyond the first game and a sequel, with plenty already mapped out.

Harlan says the story won't be in "lockstep" with the game, but Sam Lake adds the original Alan Wake will be the "seed which will grow into the bigger story we're exploring in the show". Sam is a huge part of this. "We'll be expanding the lore of this insane and dark universe and diving deeper into certain aspects of it than the game ever did".

Lake also mentioned the multiple Alan Wake video game follow-ups Remedy workshopped over the years, some of the details and assets of which found their way to the public. The closest Remedy ever got to a sequel was Alan Wake's American Nightmare, a downloadable follow-up to the base game. The story followed fictitious best-selling author Alan Wake (Matthew Porretta) on a journey to a small town in Washington state where he hopes to rid himself of prolonged writer's block.

Furthermore, it seems Lake isn't ready to talk about an Alan Wake 2.
