New Apple watch could take bite out of Swiss market

Users were also less-than-impressed by Apple's name choices for its new trio of devices. $999 is what the iPhone X cost last year and no one really expected it to be any different this year. The story that got us to this point is actually rather long, and it involves Apple slowing down phones with old, worn out batteries to prevent random crashing. iPhone users naturally didn't take kindly to that remote throttling, so Apple chose to extend an olive branch to them and cut the price of battery replacement for the entirety of 2018.

Try searching for the iPhone X on Apple's website, and you're redirected to a landing page showing off the 2018 range of the iPhone XS Max, the iPhone XS, and the iPhone XR.

The first phone to introduce the dongle was the iPhone 7, in which the 3.5mm headphone jack was ditched in favor of the proprietary Lightning cable.

So why bother discontinuing the iPhone X, its most significant phone upgrade in years?

Lost in the fray of Apple's big hardware event was the announcement that it would no longer include a dongle, free of charge, with the purchase of a new iPhone. The XS comes with a better chip under the hood and is more water-resistant, but for most people the differences will feel incremental.

We got to test the phone out in person, and reckon the display (which lands right in the middle, size-wise, of the iPhone Xs and Xs Max) might not reach the dizzying heights of OLED, but it remains a handsome smartphone display in its own right. It has an LCD screen instead of OLED and has a single camera instead of a dual camera.

Apple has already revealed what kind of price increase we're in for once the calendar hops over to 2019.

Both of these factors might explain Apple's thinking.

The iPhone XR will also be available in a variety of finishes - white, black, blue, coral, yellow, and (Product) Red - and 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB capacities, starting at $749.

Those reasons? The fact that Apple has likely put less RAM in to the iPhone XR compared to the iPhone XS and XS Max, and the screen resolution is likely going to be less, too. "I don't think [discontinuation] will impact its resale value".
