Pochettino confirms Lloris will remain Spurs captain

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is expected to discuss whether Lloris has kept the club captaincy in his pre-match press conference.

Tottenham have fined their goalkeeper two weeks' wages - about £240,000 - on top of the £50,000 fine and 20-month driving ban handed down by a court after he pleaded guilty yesterday.

Lloris' status has come into question after his drink-driving sentence. He said he was guilty of this situation. All the women, men, people can make a mistake.

"Of course we had a conversation and he explained all that happened", said Pochettino.

"He is a man and he is very conscious about what happened, and of course you can not remove it, but he has the capacity to move on, learn and be focused on playing football", said Pochettino.

"That is a massive lesson for everyone". The staff, the club, the fans, us, and he said "Any decision that you take gaffer, or the club, I think is fair". Only we need to try, how he understands that it was a mistake.

"Like a man that he is, he's going to pay and accept everything", he added.

Yet Lloris, who is out of Saturday's clash at home against Liverpool and will miss several weeks with a thigh strain, remains the Tottenham captain.

His teammate, Dele Alli, has also been ruled out of the Liverpool game after picking up a hamstring injury while on global duty with England.

Pochettino was unsurprised by any of the details that emerged on Wednesday, having spoken to the player soon after last month's arrest.

No doubt with Harry but because Harry's so big a player everyone expects him in every single action for him to do something different.

"Then like always I told you, I never talk about situations, that maybe yes or maybe no, the club is dealing or working".

"That is so important".

"I told him today: 'Where is my present, Sonny?" I want a watch or some Korean food.

"There's perhaps a chance for this weekend, but we'll see depending on how things go this week". Who took the risk?

"I'm not disappointed with him", he said.
